In 2013, the OpenEdge product group of Progress embarked on developing their next generation application server. This product would replace an application server originally developed in the late 90’s with one based on Open Source and Open Standards. This presentation details the design, decisions, successes and challenges of developing an application server based on Tomcat, Spring, Camel, CXF, and a number of other open source technologies. See what we did to develop a commercial product built on a foundation of Open Source that had to meet the bar set by our classic Application Server.
