Networking is a core piece of Infrastructure Clouds. Apache Cloudstack Networking has evolved over the years. But there are considerable gaps in managing and extending the Cloudstack network infrastructure. With increasing adoption of Baremetal services and Container based solutions, Software Defined Networking (SDN) has a bigger role to play in reducing the complexity of the deployments.

There is a need for -
Distributed Network Services to improve performance;
Intent-driven and Policy based frameworks to enable Network Automation;
Network Visibility and in turn for Network Analytics for efficient network infrastructure planning.

This talk elaborates the applicability of SDN solutions to improve network performance/management/planning for the users, reviews various open source approaches to SDN in Cloudstack and finally paves the path for in-depth dialogue in the community.
