Using Advanced Storage Features with VMware in CloudStack - Mike Tutkowski, SolidFire

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

VMware ESXi (used with vCenter Server) is a popular hypervisor in CloudStack.

In this presentation, you will learn about new storage features that have been added to support ESXi in CloudStack such as the following:

1) Storage Quality of Service per virtual disk (supported as of 4.3).

2) Snapshots that reside on the supporting backend storage system (as opposed to the traditional CloudStack behavior of backups that are copied to secondary storage).

3) Creating new CloudStack volumes quickly through backend-storage cloning of snapshots and leveraging VMware's resignature API.

4) Creating new OS templates (that reside, as all templates in CloudStack, on secondary storage) from snapshots that reside on the backend storage system.

5) Template caching and how this speeds up deployment of new VMs that use the same OS template as previous ones.
