Apache iota - in incubation - is a SMACK stack (Spark, Mesos, Akka, Cassandra, Kafka) platform for IoT. The first component of Apache iota that is available is the Fey Engine. This Engine is an Actor based framework developed in Scala with heavy use of the Akka framework. It offers developers the ability to write their own 'third-party' components for use in orchestrating the movement of data in the iota platform. In this presentation we will show how to install the Fey Engine on a development machine, how to develop a component and how components can be put together to create an orchestrated solution. We will show Fey running on a RaspberryPi and explaining how Fey can run at different layers of a vertical IoT stack which includes a Mesos cluster all the way down to a RaspberryPi.
