BarCampApache
BarCampApache is a BarCamp being facilitated by a group of people involved in the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). All topics are still welcome however! As the ASF is helping to organize, there will be a lot of people around who know a lot about Apache projects / communities / technologies, so there are normally quite a few sessions proposed on those areas. It's not exclusively Apache though, so everyone should come, and talk about fun new ideas, projects and technologiesBarCampApache will be a dynamic get together open to the public. Like other unconferences, the schedule will be determined by the participants, both Apache and non! We strongly encourage lots of people to come along and share their knowledge and ideas. We want it to be a great day of sharing for everyone, not just those at the event. Everyone coming in for the conference is encouraged to come early, as it will be a great day for all.

Please note: While BarCamp Apache is free to attend, you will need to register for ApacheCon if you want to attend the rest of the conference sessions.

Apache CloudStack User Data: Alternatives to the Virtual Router - Kris Sterckx, Nuage Networks
CloudStack’s User Data service by default is provided by the Virtual Router (VR). This architecture is fine when deploying a VR is fine. For some deployments this may be problematic though, as of computational or IP address resources or as of VPC tier limitations. Especially for SDN enriched cloud deployments, there is wide interest to scrap the deployment of VR’s.

The presentation captures two alternative approaches for the Virtual Router, which Nuage Networks implemented and which both are being worked at for upstream inclusion. A first approach is based on Config Drive, made available for Isolated Networks and VPC. A second approach is one in which CloudStack no longer is the User Data provider but in which the location of an external User Data service is provided to the guest VM through user-defined (“extra”) DHCP options.

The presentation outlines both approaches in detail.

Effective SDN for Apache CloudStack - Necessities and Implementation Approaches - Srinivas Gandikota, Accelerite
Networking is a core piece of Infrastructure Clouds. Apache Cloudstack Networking has evolved over the years. But there are considerable gaps in managing and extending the Cloudstack network infrastructure. With increasing adoption of Baremetal services and Container based solutions, Software Defined Networking (SDN) has a bigger role to play in reducing the complexity of the deployments.

There is a need for -
Distributed Network Services to improve performance;
Intent-driven and Policy based frameworks to enable Network Automation;
Network Visibility and in turn for Network Analytics for efficient network infrastructure planning.

This talk elaborates the applicability of SDN solutions to improve network performance/management/planning for the users, reviews various open source approaches to SDN in Cloudstack and finally paves the path for in-depth dialogue in the community.
